Those pics trigger some nice memories... Hmm, was that small pump shaft
already gone in 2012 or did I just not find it on your site?

BTW, those 85 uSv/h close to "Joker" are mostly coming from just one
place: The mudguard (check the pictures). Chances are we've found
some Pu here since the tube in this GS usually gives only about 10%
higher readings when opening the alpha cover on pure beta/gamma
spot sources.

Yeah, "Joker" is the absolutely highlight of the exhibition in Buryakivka. In one of documetarys he was mentioned as " the diligent german, who could not withstand the soviet radiation" and "hi died after few minutes stay on the graphite block on the roof of the third reactor building"..
After the damage soldiers had to help him out with such usual tools like spade and pulley..

For the sake of the "retrieval of Joker's honour" (and therefore German
enginieering ;-)) it is being told(*) that the Soviets "whitewashed" the
radiation levels on the roof between block 3 and 4 down to 10%(!) of
the real values in order to downplay the true severity of the accident.
As a result, Joker was outlayed to withstand these (lower) levels --
and not a tenfold increase...

Do I need a special certificate to look at the Buryakivka

Buryakivka is one of the places where you always had to be "lucky".
That means, not applicable for standard programmes and AFAIK
currently more or less "out of reach". But at the end this means nothing:
When the Zone was officially closed in 2011, I've been there. It is
nothing compared to Rassocha back in the good old days but still
highly impressive -- Joker, STR-1, helicopters sitting on trucks,
the tank lorry emitting 3 mSv/h on its surface... all these will probably
be lodged in memory forever.

The Zone is a place where you can't predict anything -- go there,
trust to luck, be happy if it worked, come back if it didn't...
