I dont know about the current situation, but earlier there was a possibility to fly with the helicopter over the zone. For something about 1k$ per hour.

A helicopter trip is one of the few things I'm still missing so I put it on my
todo list a while ago and did some investigations:
Yes, it's possible. Unfortunately, as there is no helicopter available in
Chornobyl, you have to get there from Borodyanka (and back!). This adds
two more hours to the whole trip -- as a result you pay 3 x 900 Euros for
being one hour in the Zone actually. The area directly above ChNPP is
never-never land but apart from that you can go everywhere.
It's quite a bit of money but I'm pretty sure I'll do this one day (if I just had
more time ;-()...

You're sure? The MI-2 got room for 6-8 people so even if there
are two Ukrainian friends coming along, this might be possible.
One has to figure out if he can drop us off near/in the Zone so
we can take off for a nice 3-days trip after that (just dreaming)...
OK, I won't be able to do that before next year (too busy at the
moment) but let's keep that in mind...

Absolutely. If everyone pays their share, it won't cost a fortune. And flying over Pripyat is definitely worth the money! Next Year sounds good, too. This year I'm already out of budget

Re: Some Aerial Pictures From The Zone
There are other ways to get aerial photography of the Zone. I've seen a friend's homemade tri-copter that carries an HD video camera. It is entirely remote control with a live video feed and heads-up display for piloting. Imagine sending one of those up the inside of the cooling tower, or around the block 5 reactor hall.... I'm seriously considering building one for my next trip.
